Foreman A/Tree Care Opportunity - Town of Wellesley
The Town of Wellesley Department of Public Works is seeking a skilled and motivated Tree Care Foreman to lead and support the Town’s urban forestry and tree maintenance operations. This is a hands-on supervisory role combining field leadership, crew coordination, and stewardship of Wellesley’s public shade trees and open spaces.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and participate in daily tree care operations, including pruning, removals, storm response, and right-of-way maintenance
- Lead and train tree care crews, ensuring safe work practices and compliance with industry standards
- Coordinate work assignments, schedules, and equipment use
- Assist with tree inspections, hazard mitigation, and response to service requests
- Support the Tree Warden and Superintendent in implementing the Town’s tree management program
- Interact professionally with residents, contractors, and other Town departments
- Respond to emergencies, including after-hours and weather-related events, as required
This position includes both supervisory responsibilities and hands-on field work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Four (4) to five (5) years of progressively responsible arboricultural experience, including experience supervising or leading crews
- Working knowledge of tree care practices, equipment, and safety standards
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Licenses & Certifications
- Required at Time of Hire
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Class B CDL
Required Within 6–12 Months of Appointment (Town-supported)
The Town understands that qualified candidates may not hold every certification at the time of hire. The following may be obtained within the first year, with training and testing supported by the Town:
- Hoisting Engineer License (1C and/or 2B)
- Pesticide Applicator License (Category 36)
- ISA Certified Arborist or Massachusetts Certified Arborist
- CPR / First Aid
- EHAP or equivalent safety training

Salary range: $31.02 – $43.20 per hour, DOQ.
