HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR (HEO) FORESTRY DIVISION 

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS 

The City of Watertown seeks qualified candidates for a Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) in the Forestry Division. The Forestry Division is responsible for care and maintenance of the City’s urban forest, including removal of street trees, street tree pruning, and tree planting under the direction of the Tree Warden/Forestry Supervisor. The Forestry Division also leads efforts on clearing fallen limbs and tree debris from streets and public pathways. While overtime is not mandatory, employees should be prepared to work during storm events outside of regular working hours as needed.

Qualifications: High School diploma or GED, the ability to work alternate shifts and overtime. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with airbrakes endorsement and a clean driving record are all required. Massachusetts 2B hoisting license required. Massachusetts 2A/1C hoisting license strongly preferred.

Hours: The hours for these positions are generally Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Salary: This is a Grade 5, union position with a Step 1 salary of $70,565.
